Measuring Principle Of Our Cod Sensor:
The BOQU Digital Online COD Sensor is based on the absorption of ultraviolet light by organic matter, and uses the 254 nm spectral absorption coefficient SAC254 to reflect the important measurement parameters of soluble organic matter content in water, and can be converted into COD value under certain conditions. Our cod sensor allows for continuous monitoring without the need for any reagents.

    Accurate Online Nitrate Nitrogen Measurement

    • The theory used in the BOQU Digital Online COD Sensor is based on UV-Vis spectrophotometry, specifically using the 254 nm spectral absorption coefficient (SAC254). Here’s how it works:

      1. UV Absorption of Organic Matter

      At a wavelength of 254 nm, many organic compounds, particularly those containing aromatic structures (like proteins and some organic acids), absorb ultraviolet light. This absorption is related to the concentration of organic matter in the water.

      2. Spectral Absorption Coefficient (SAC254)

      The SAC254 represents how much UV light at 254 nm is absorbed by the water sample. It is a key indicator of the presence of dissolved organic matter (DOM). The more organic matter in the water, the higher the absorbance at this wavelength.

      3. Conversion to COD Values

      Since COD is a measure of the oxygen demand needed to oxidize organic materials, under certain conditions, the SAC254 value can be empirically correlated to the COD value. This correlation is based on the fact that the amount of organic matter that absorbs UV light is proportional to the amount of oxygen required to oxidize it.

      • No Reagents: Unlike traditional COD methods, this technique doesn’t require chemical reagents (like potassium dichromate). Instead, it relies on the direct absorption of UV light, allowing continuous, reagent-free monitoring.

      • Real-Time Monitoring: Since the sensor continuously measures UV absorption, it can provide real-time data on water quality without interruptions for manual sampling or chemical processing.

      Key Advantages of This Theory:

      • Continuous Monitoring: Allows for real-time, uninterrupted monitoring.
      • No Chemical Waste: Since no reagents are used, there's no chemical waste.
      • Rapid Response: The method provides immediate feedback, which is critical for process control in industries or environmental monitoring.

      This makes the UV absorption method at 254 nm a highly effective and efficient approach for estimating COD values, particularly for soluble organic matter in water.
